The Importance of Buying Safe Baby Car SeatsWhen it comes to keeping your little angel safe, it's important to keep in mind that you need to have all the right equipment, inside and outside the home. Everything needs safety lids, buckles and covers. When doing things that require your concentration, such as driving, you need to have equipment that will allow you to stop worrying, at least until you get to your destination. This is why you should invest in good baby car seats. Baby car seats come in a variety of sizes and shapes, and it's also important to find a make that will be comfortable for your child. Consider the type of car you have - what baby seats would fit inside a compact car, or would fit snugly in a convertible? Look through online reviews and ask other parents for recommendations. A little research would certainly not hurt! All infant seats manufactured and sold in the United States adhere to very strict safety and quality regulations, but this doesn't mean you should just buy the cheapest seat you can find! The make may be too bulky, or your sensitive child might be uncomfortable with the seat cover. Your little one may also be big enough to need booster seats. Take your time shopping - in fact, bring your baby with you, and let him or her pick out the seat he or she likes best! Don't settle on the first thing you see. What's important is to find a seat that will be a "replacement nanny," one that will enable you to take care of your baby hands-free. Buy a seat that will take out "driving distractions" from your list of things to worry about daily. In April 2006, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute released a survey that it conducted on 241 drivers in 100 vehicles over an entire year. The study covered over 2 million miles, and it revealed that the drivers interviewed were involved in 82 crashes and 761 near-crashes. Various risks were discovered, but it was also found that reaching for another person or object - an infant who had stuck her arm out the open window, or a fallen baby bottle - tends to multiply the risk of car crashes... by nine times! In short, don't allow yourself to be distracted. Good baby car seats are not the end-all and be-all of keeping infants safe on the road, but they are certainly the essential first step!
